Top things to do in Coolum
Coolum Beach has something for everyone, from surfing, fishing and hiking to twilight markets and quaint cafes.
Climb
Here's a fun fact. Mount Coolum is the second largest rock in Australia after Uluru. Impressive, right? You can also climb it—the views from the top are spectacular, particularly of the serene Pacific Ocean. The 1.6 km return trail to the summit of Mount Coolum is steep and involves uneven surfaces and about 800 stairs, so only attempt if you're reasonably fit!
Surf
If you have a grommet (a junior surfer) in the family, consider booking a session with Coolum Surf School. They provide all the equipment including wet shirts, sunscreen and learner-style surfboards. If you're a seasoned surfer or body boarder, get amongst the glassy waters and consistent waves, then head to the Coolum Surf Club for a meal with oceanfront views.
Swim
Coolum Beach has a laid-back, holiday atmosphere that's considerably quieter than other beachside towns. Spend a day splashing about and relaxing on its pristine white sand, play a game of beach cricket, and then cook up a storm on the free BBQs. End the day with a stroll along the shore of First Bay—make sure you stop to explore the rock pools along the way.
Splash
Want to up the ante on the kids' water fun? Plan a visit to Blas Aqua Park Coolum. It covers a huge area with an array of inflatable fun items, including blast bags, slides, swings, trampolines, and chill-out areas. There are also picnic benches, extensive shade structures, and free BBQ areas.
Frolic
If your four-legged friend is onboard, you're in luck! Coolum has an off-leash dog beach at Stumers Creek. It's at the northern end of Coolum Beach Caravan Park and extends for one kilometre. That means lots of space for sandy runs, beach paddles, and more adventures in the saltwater creek.
Eat
Coolum Beach is backed by an entertainment and shopping strip filled with cafes and shopping ops. The Coolum Surf Club and our Beachside Restaurant are among the best places in the area, offering great food, fantastic entertainment, and a relaxing coastal atmosphere.
